Moving To/From Self-Storage
Access
The self-storage unit must be accessible for a full-size moving van, approximately 83 feet in total length (53-ft moving van with low ground clearance plus approximately 30 feet of tractor cab).
Hills, sharp turns, gates, and aisle width are all factors that affect accessibility.
If the self-storage unit is not tractor-trailer accessible, additional charges will apply (shuttle).
Origin Self-Storage
Space will be needed to inspect, pack, and re-pack the shipment to ensure safe transport.
The transferring employee must be present at all times during the pack / load process.
Disposal of any items left behind as designated by the transferee, including unsuitable packing material, is the responsibility of the transferring employee.
A tariff charge applies when loading from a self-storage location.
An additional charge applies when the self-storage facility is an “extra stop.”
A separate inventory must be completed for items loaded from a self-storage unit when performed as an “extra stop.”
Destination Self-Storage
Delivery to a self-storage facility is considered final delivery.
Liability coverage “stops” with the completion of delivery as the shipment is then no longer in the care, custody, and control of Mayflower Transit.
Liability coverage (insurance) for the goods after delivery into the self-storage facility has been completed is the responsibility of the transferring employee.
The transferring employee must be present at all times during delivery.
A tariff charge applies for delivering into a self-storage facility.
An additional charge applies when the self-storage facility is an “extra stop.”
All pad-wrapping and furniture blankets will be returned to the van operator.
The delivery crew will place items in the self-storage facility in an orderly manner, stacking boxes with labels visible, and in aisles as space will allow.
Furniture will be stacked when required by space restrictions.
It is the responsibility of the transferring employee to provide protection (e.g. blankets) to protect furniture items delivered to a self-storage facility.
The transferring employee must thoroughly inspect all items delivered into self-storage, and note any damages on the driver’s paperwork at the time of delivery.
It is the transferring employee’s responsibility to complete the Inventory Control Form at the time of delivery, noting any missing items or damages in writing.
Failure to document damages or missing items at the time of delivery will result in a denial of claims.
Claims must be filed within the designated claim filing period and prior to moving goods to another location.
Any claim received after the claim filing period has expired will not be given consideration.
The transfer or subsequent movement of items from self-storage to any other location is the responsibility of the transferring employee.
