Non-Allowables

Before your possessions are packed and loaded, it is important that you understand which items cannot be shipped because they represent a hazard or are perishable. Listed below are some common non-allowable items that you will need to address prior to your pack and load dates.

Hazardous Materials (Items that are flammable, corrosive or explosive)

Examples include:

  • Aerosols

  • Ammonia

  • Ammunition

  • Ammunition Reloading Components

  • Car Batteries

  • Charcoal

  • Charcoal Lighter

  • Chemistry Sets

  • Cleaning Solvents

  • Darkroom Chemicals

  • Fertilizer Pesticides

  • Fire Extinguisher

  • Fireworks

  • Gasoline

  • Household Batteries

  • Kerosene

  • Lamp Oils

  • Liquid Bleach

  • Matches

  • Motor Oil

  • Nail Polish

  • Nail Polish Remover

  • Paint Thinner

  • Paints (latex & oil based)

  • Poisons (such as weed killer)

  • Pool Chemicals

  • Propane

  • Sterno

Perishables (Food, plants or living things that may die or spoil in transit.*)

Examples include:

  • Frozen Food

  • Refrigerated Food Produce

  • Plants

  • Open or half-used foods or food without adequate preservation



Refrigerator/freezer

  • We recommend vinegar and baking soda dissolved in warm water as a cleaning agent.

  • It is a good idea to leave the doors open for 24 hours prior to loading.

  • Glass shelves should be removed and packed.

  • Water line for icemaker must be disconnected. (Some company policies cover this service).

  • Disconnect the gas or power line. (Some company policies cover this service).

  • Clean all compartments.

Items of Personal Importance/Sentimental Value (This third category of non-allowables can create problems should your shipment be delayed or items lost. We suggest that irreplaceable items and\or sentimental items be carried with you instead of being packed with your shipment.)

  • Address Books

  • Airline Tickets

  • Bonds

  • Car Keys

  • Car Titles

  • Cash

  • Cell Phones

  • Certificates of Deposit

  • Checkbooks

  • Computer Discs

  • Deeds

  • Documents pertaining to your new home

  • Family Photographs

  • Financial Documents

  • Insurance Policies

  • IRAs

  • Jewelry

  • Keys to: furniture, safe, or home

  • Laptop Computers

  • Medical & Dental Records

  • Pagers

  • Personal Video Tapes

  • Prescription Medicine

  • Professional Files

  • Remote Controls for TVs

  • School Records

  • Stocks
